Bandits Attack Zamfara Emir, Kill Three Policemen, Five Others
Gunmen suspected to be bandits on Thursday ambushed the convoy of Major Sanusi Muhammad Asha, Emir of Kaura Namoda in Zamfara State, killing eight persons, including three police officers.
SaharaReporters gathered that the incident occurred along Gusau-Funtua highway.
Sources said the Emir was on his way for an official function in Gusau when the gunmen attacked his convoy, killing three police officers.
A driver of a Hilux van in convoy, a senior guard to the monarch and one Dan Amal, who was an uncle to the Emir was also killed.
Calls put across to Mohammed Shehu, spokesman of the Zamfara State Police Command were not picked nor returned.
Zamfara, like many other states across the north, has witnessed sporadic attacks by bandits and kidnappers that have claimed the lives of many.
