FCT Court Again Grants Bail To Five Activists Illegally Arrested At Dunamis Church
A Magistrate’s Court sitting in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, has granted bail to the five activists arrested at the Dunamis International Gospel Centre (Glory Dome) along Airport Road, Abuja by Department of State Services for wearing #BuhariMustGo T-shirts.
The activists namely; Ben Mannaseh, Emmanuel Larry, Victor Udoka Anene, a blind Saxophonist, Samuel Gabriel Iwatonaiye and Henry Nwodo have spent 25 days in illegal detention.
The Chief Magistrate, Mohammed Zubairu, admitted the activists to bail with sum of N500,000 each and with one surety in like sum who must submit his/her National Identity Card to the court.
The sureties must be resident within the jurisdiction of the court.
The court held that the offences were bailable and they had been in custody for 25 days.
The activists were charged on five counts bordering on a criminal conspiracy with intent to cause a breach of the peace and disturb the public peace thereby committing an offence contrary to Section 114 of the Penal Code Law CAP 89 LFN 1190 and punishable under the same law.
The matter was adjourned to August 23, 2021, for trial.
Justice Anwuli Chikere of the Federal High Court had on Monday, July 26, while ruling on the ex parte motion filed by their lawyer ordered the DSS to immediately release the activists from detention. See Also
But the DSS claimed ignorant of the court order and hurriedly filed charges and arraigned the activists.
