Borehole Operator Killed By Trigger-Happy Police Officer Buried In Bauchi
A borehole drilling operator, Kabir Babai who was shot dead by a policeman, Moses Samuel has been buried in his hometown in Bauchi State on Sunday.
According to reports, the 33-year-old Bauchi State-born man popularly known as Mallam was killed by the policeman over a minor argument. It was learnt that the deceased who was driving a borehole drilling truck was brutalised before he was shot dead.
On Friday, his drilling truck broke down along Ikirun road around 10:30 am. The driver and his crew were said to have allegedly blocked the road while trying to fix the vehicle before the arrival of the police officers.
According to the report, an eyewitness said, "the police officers who came down from a mini commercial bus (Korope) hit the driver with a shovel under the truck before he was shot with a pistol in the chest.
"The police officers, immediately after the act, took off their uniforms and ran away. Police were shooting guns and teargas to scare away the angry crowd, while they took away the corpse of the driver.”
Babai worked with Shekeenah Zelter Global Concept LTD in Osogbo as a borehole drill operator before he was killed by a policeman at the Otaefun area of Osun State.
An autopsy was conducted on his body before it was taken to Bauchi for burial after his father insisted that he must be buried in Bauchi.
Babai left a pregnant wife, 3-year-old baby and aged parents behind.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Olawale Olokode, sympathise (with the family and colleagues of the deceased noting that the policeman that shot Babai would be prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to other officers of his likes.
Olokode who spoke through the Police Public Relations Officer for the Command, Yemisi Opalola said the policeman had been arrested and detained for investigation.
He assured the family and relations of the deceased that they would get justice.
Also, investigation and disciplinary actions have commenced as the CP noted that the suspect will be arraigned in court after completion of the Orderly Room Trial.
