BREAKING: Protest Rocks Delta Market As Women Block East-West Road
Delta State market women, numbering over 200, in Ughelli town, Monday embarked on a peaceful protest against the Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Area, Godwin Adode.
The protesting market women who took to the ever-busy East-West Road barricaded the highway with their wooden chairs and tables while hurling curses on the council chairman.
SaharaReporters reliably gathered that the protest followed the proposed relocation of the market from Otovwodo to Okogbe Street in Ughelli by the council chairman.
The women have resisted the move.
The protest, which started around 8:00 am, caused gridlock on the highway, leaving commuters and motorists stranded.
SaharaReporters gathered that policemen and soldiers who arrived at the scene of protest to prevent the breakdown of law and order were chased away by the protesting women.
The protest was still going on at the time of filing this report as some youths had also joined in the protest.
